The Vanguard Vehicle Design Package

"Here's a look at some of the key features of this cleaner car:

Transmission: The Vanguard has a six-speed automatic-manual transmission that delivers a smoother ride and allows the engine to operate at top efficiency. There's no clutch: You switch gears by simply pushing a button on your dashboard. If you don't want manual control, the car will do the shifting for you.

Engine: Cylinder deactivation will give you muscle only when you need it, saving you money and cutting pollution. If you're cruising down the highway with no passengers, two of the six cylinders will shut down seamlessly. When you lean on the gas, go up a hill, or load your car with six kids headed to soccer practice, the extra cylinders will kick back on.

Electrical system: Electric power steering will let you change direction with an electric motor instead of a hydraulic pump, providing faster, more responsive steering and consuming less energy.

Ethanol: Building cars that can use as much as 85 percent ethanol from plants would help cut global-warming pollution. Corn ethanol can cut pollution 10 to 30 percent compared to gasoline, while cellulosic ethanol from switchgrass, wood chips and other materials would cut pollution by as much as 90 percent. As more gas stations offer ethanol, you will be able to fill your car with homegrown, clean, renewable fuel.

Aerodynamics: The Vanguard is streamlined to use less energy fighting air resistance. In some models, the updated design would provide more space for passengers and storage.

Air conditioning: The Vanguard's cooling system would keep the planet cool, too. Tighter hoses and cleaner refrigerants would keep global-warming pollution out of the atmosphere, while more efficient air compressors wouldn't tax the engine as much."

Tracking your kids 24/7 with the latest technology.

Seek & Find is a new service from Bell Canada. Some people may object and rail against yet another big brother technology, but I'd tell them they lost that battle years ago. Cell phones have GPS chips in them that provide 911 with your coordinates and they have for years. Too bad for you they don't actually display this value or you would have a nice GPS receiver immediately bundled with your cell phone. Proof positive that the 'big brother' battle was lost years ago.

Now we finally get to use the technology our selves and I expect some good ideas to spring forth and support this technology. This is a useful tool. Bang! Instant bike delivery fleet management system. Did your teen runaway? What to know where they are so you can plan your intervention? Well now you can.

United Kingdom: Study warns new energy law will see prices plummet

The Guardian has an interesting article on how new legislation regarding energy consumption could negatively affect the value of older, more energy inefficient buildings.

I find this interesting because I think it is just a harbringer of things to come. While a furnace for a home is only a few thousand dollars, buyers already give the age and efficiency attributes quite a bit of attention.

I am looking forward to the first studies on renewable energy systems and their impacts on property values. I suspect the value of these upgrades will appreciate with time, then again I am expecting energy prices to continue to rise.

Algae BioDiesel News

Bumped into a great article from the New York Times titled Venture Capitalists Want to Put Some Algae in Your Tank. Every time I've looked at this particular solution to producing biofuels its been positive. The article mentions a couple of companies that you may like to read more about (Green Fuel Technologies Corporation and Live Fuels Inc.) It also refers to a new report on the U.S. Department of Energy's Aquatic Species Program. I have not had a chance to read this report fully but it's 300+ pages dedicated to making BioDiesel from algae.
